On Monday 16 April 2018 the symposium ’25 years ban on asbestos’ will be held at the SER in The Hague. Admission is free. The International Asbestos Awareness Foundation will be showcasing eleven displays with various samples of asbestos and (household) products containing asbestos. For a sneak preview click here.

Although the use of asbestos was banned in The Netherlands 25 years ago, and import and application of asbestos were officially prohibited and handling of asbestos was strictly regulated, asbestos is certainly not a problem of the past.

Every year, more than 500 people die of the asbestos-related disease mesothelioma and many people are diagnosed with other asbestos-related illnesses. Moreover, large quantities of asbestos were applied in buildings and in the ground, sanitation of which still poses large problems today.

This makes asbestos a present-day topic. At the symposium ’25 years of asbestos’ the balance is drawn up.
